FROM PFLAG LAS CRUCES:

Speaking of the coming months, we are very excited about our upcoming general meeting, on Wednesday, September 15^th at the Branigan Cultural Center.  The exhibit “Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray," is currently on display at the Cultural Center and Julie Hansen, the education curator, has opened the doors for us specifically on Wednesday, September 15^th.  The life and work of Frida Kahlo will be presented to us by the wonderful volunteers at the Branigan Cultural Center.  We hope you will be able to join us at 6:30 at the Cultural Center.  Please RSVP at 496-5242 or pflaglascruces@yahoo.com so we can know how many seats to set up. 

In October, we have two events that you will enjoy.  Our general meeting will feature Dan Rubin from the Las Cruces High School Gay Straight Alliance and Karen Hanson from the Mayfield GSA who will talk about their groups and how they are doing at their schools.   That meeting is taking place on Wednesday, October 20^th at the Unitarian Church.  Then, an extra SPECIAL meeting will take place on Thursday, October 28^th with a location to be announced that will feature nationally known transgender advocate, educator and speaker, Jameson Green.  We will also have a special reception prior to his talk on the 28^th.  More details to come but please mark your calendars now. 

In November, we will have our 15^th, (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???) yes…15^th Annual Diversity Fundraiser and to change things up as we celebrate this milestone, we will be having Rainbow Bingo on November 13^th at the NMSU Golf Course.  This will be an event for EVERYONE in our community as we celebrate the faces of all of families, in every shape and form.    We would like to feature photos of YOUR family during our Diversity Fundraiser and would like to extend an invitation to all of you to submit photos of you, your partner, your kids, or your family in whatever form it takes.  We’d like to, with your permission, feature your photos during our slide show at our Rainbow Bingo event.  You can submit them via email as a jpeg or if you’d like, send us a photo, we will scan it and send it back to you.  Please include some information on the photo as to names, dates (if applicable) and a description of your family.  We are very excited about this part of our fundraiser because it truly shows how unique our community is in Las Cruces.  You can email your photos to pflaglascruces@yahoo.com or mail them to PFLAG Las Cruces, 440 Linda Vista Rd., Las Cruces, New Mexico, 88005.  We promise to take great care of your personal memories if you decide to send them in.  We also won’t share your photos with anyone else.  Also, don’t forget that we will also have food, access to the bar at the Golf Course, Silent Auction items and live auction items.  It will be a night of fun whether you like bingo or not.  And, if you don’t, you probably will by the end of the night!
